Random Films, Komiks, Pantheism

March 3rd, 2008

* Off the top of my head, here is a random list of films I’ve seen and liked/loved:

1 Leolo (probably my all-time favorite; a Canadian film in French)
2 Splash (with Tom Hanks and Daryll Hannah, with a beautiful song – One Fine Day or Love
Came for Me? – by Lee Holdridge and Marvin Hamlisch)
3 Insiang, Maynila sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag, and Ora Pro Nobis (Lino Brocka)
4 Kakabakaba ka ba? (Mike de Leon?)
5 Alapaap (Tata Esteban)
6 Groundhog Day (with Bill Murray)
7 All About My Mother (Pedro Almodovar)
8 Carlito’s Way (with Al Pacino, and the beautiful Penelope Ann Miller)
9 Santa Sangre (Axwl Jodorowsky)
10 The Girl on the Bridge (a French film in black and white)
11 Immortal Beloved
… and many others…

* And of course, I grew up reading komiks (Aliwan, Wakasan, Pilipino, Superstar, etc.) and Liwayway (because of the komiks). And there was a time when I’d even go to Taytay wet market (I live in Angono) just to look for a copy of Funny Komiks. (That was how many years ago?) So you can say that my formative years were spent idolizing Rizal and reading komiks.

* I am not very fond of beauty pageants even though I love women in swimsuits. Nakakaumay. =B And I really do cringe when I get to hear the usual questions and answers.

* I passed through my atheistic phase. And then went on to become an agnostic, and then a buddhist (Tibetan), and am now (for quite some time) a pantheist. So I feel a kind of kinship for anyone (whatever their religious, political, philosophical persuasions). Like Winter and Henry Miller, and especially when I’m happily intoxicated with alcohol, there are times when I become deeply aware of my love/compassion for everyone. The way I look at it, what matters more than one’s beliefs is his personal practice (ethics).

*I love Gwyneth! At least, I prefer her to Jennifer Aniston.

*I loved “Lady Chatterley’s Lover.”

*I loved Nick Pichay’s “Bilog.”
